The main airport on Exuma, Exuma International Airport (GGT) is located on the largest island, Great Exuma. Major airlines offer daily, bi-weekly, and weekly flights to and from Exuma. They are more frequent during the busy seasons so keep that in mind. Chartered flights are also an option. There are regularly chartered flights out of Staniel Cay Airport (MYES), Black Point Airport (MYEB), and Farmer’s Cay Airport.
The best way to get to Exuma is by flying. The Bahamas are located less than 100 miles off the coast of Florida, so flights from that region are usually no more than a few hours. This close distance makes it the perfect vacation spot.
There are direct flights to Exuma from cities like Nassau, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Montreal, Canada. During the busy season these flights from the US and Canada is usually bi-weekly, and during the off-season, they are usually once a week. Flights from Nassau are much more frequent, happening daily. Many cities fly directly into Nassau, which is one of the largest cities in the Bahamas.
If flying isn’t an option, or you want to only fly for one part, there are other ways to get to the Exumas. There is the Bahamas Ferry Service from Nassau, which takes a few hours. Some people have opted to hire larger boats and yachts from Florida and boat to Exuma.
Getting Around Exuma
Once you arrive in Exuma it is very easy to get around. Taxis are available to take you to your lodging, though many hotels will arrange transportation and vans to pick you up.
